Once you have a smartphone or tablet, you can take as many photos as you like, without any additional cost. So what new opportunities does this offer? Have you considered how to handle the mass of photos this may result in? What if you lost your phone with all your holiday snaps on it?
This course is suitable for people who:
- Have an Apple iPhone or iPad and want to unlock its potential in taking photographs with the camera function.
- Are going on holidays and need help understanding how to take good photos, how to manage a digital photo album, how to download and store photos.
- Are deciding between using their camera/tablet’s phone or purchasing a more powerful camera (SLR or DSLR etc).
This course is for those who own an Apple iPhone or iPad. For those who have an Android Smartphone or Tablet (eg Google Pixel, Samsung, HTC, Huawei, Nokia, LG, Lenovo, Razer, OnePlus, Sony and more), please attend our 'Tech Savvy Seniors - Introduction to Photography for Android Smartphones and Tablets’ course.

Course Outline
New photographic opportunities that Apple iPhones and iPads offer
The course will cover how to:
- take a photograph and view it
- back up your photographs (if you lose your iPhone or iPad, it is not the end of the world!)
- edit your photographs (to get the best out of them)
- publish your photographs (that’s why you took the picture)
- archive/store your photographs (culling photos and long term storage)
Note: This class will not teach photo editing techniques using software such as Photoshop etc
Camera/photographic alternatives
What the relative merits and demerits are between different devices and a consideration of which may be more suitable for your specific needs. We will discuss:
- smartphones
- tablets
- small digital cameras
- single lens reflex (SLR) cameras
- digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras
Course Outcome
After this workshop, you should be able to handle photography using an Apple iPhone or iPad without fear. You will also understand which device is most suitable for your photographic needs.
What to Bring
- Notepad and pen
- An Apple iPhone or iPad that can connect to the internet. You may need to share one with others in the workshop.
Prerequisite: Desirable
- This workshop builds on knowledge covered in other Tech Savvy Senior workshops. It would be useful, but not essential, if you had attended some of the other Tech Savvy Seniors classes listed below.
Prerequisite: Essential
- Participants must be over 60 years old. Tech Savvy Seniors is an initiative of the NSW Ageing Strategy and is funded in partnership between the NSW Government and Telstra
Delivery Mode
Classroom based: experienced and engaging trainers will take you through the course material face to face.
Classroom based learning for this course includes:
- Scheduled class times and sessions
- Interaction with your trainer and other students
- Workshop is delivered in a computer room
