Bushwalk 3 - Bungaroo to Gordon Creek

Bushwalk 3 - Bungaroo to Gordon Creek

Bushwalk 3 -  Bungaroo to Gordon Creek  - Sydney Course

Escape to the great outdoors with our resident bushwalking guide, Greg Williams, who has been leading bushwalks around Sydney for over 33 years. You can book each bushwalk individually or book the 'Bushwalking - Sunday Adventure Bushwalks Package' which includes all four bushwalks at a discounted price.

Enjoy this pleasant journey through the heart of Garigal National Park. This bushwalk takes us from Bungaroo to Gordon Creek skirting alongside the beautiful Middle Harbour Creek for most of its trip. Bungaroo, is a location on the creek where the salt water meets the freshwater and is understood to be the site where Governor Arthur Phillip and party camped on the night of 16 April 1788 on the first of many expeditions intended to find arable land that could supply the Colony with agricultural products. The place name ‘Bungaroo’ is thought to be an Aboriginal word given to the area by Governor Arthur Phillip and meaning ‘Resting Place’. but others say it is a name meaning ‘Salt Water Turtle’, or 'Running Water'. A member of the Governor’s party described the area as... the most desert wild and solitary seclusion the imagination can form any idea of. Birdlife in the valley prevails in this delightful area where there is a plentiful supply of fresh running water from the adjacent creeks. The Valley is often noted for its remoteness although you would not know that you are only a stone throw from civilization. The Middle Harbour Valley is a great place to forest bath amongst the rich diversity of the eucalypt trees and the beautiful sandstone rocky outcrops.

All bushwalks have morning tea provided with tea, coffee and delicious chocolate treats available.

A Course Information Guide regarding the bushwalk will be provided beforehand. Please consult the Course Information Guide prior to the walk for comprehensive information on meeting places, start times, travel directions and more.
