Many people already have a skill set that they would like to put into action and find it difficult to find a job in their specific field of expertise.
This course is an introductory qualification that covers the core skills required to start a new business.
Start a new journey with this new business course! Students will gain the knowledge and some hands-on experience enabling them to consider business options and the required commitment for running a micro business.
The BSB30220 Certificate III in Entrepreneurship and New Business course combines theory with the opportunity to look at options in simulating the processes for starting up and learning what’s involved in running a business along with workshops that will inspire and provide tools for planning the way forward. We have a team of trainers with a wealth of experience in running micro businesses who will offer support and guidance throughout the course.

Students will gain the knowledge via a classroom or remote classroom environment and then get the opportunity to apply this knowledge with a simulated business start-up.
In this course you will learn about the requirements of a starting and running a new business including:
- Looking at opportunities available for business
- How to create a business proposal
- Looking at the resources and financials required
- How to comply with regulations and laws
- Getting organised and being aware of the commitment
- Looking at risks and budgets
- Using social media to your advantage
Students will gain a basic understanding of the core requirements of starting and running a micro business. Students will then have the opportunity to use previous skills and knowledge in a particular industry to consider starting and running a business in their field of expertise.
Students will learn:
- How to investigate opportunities for business, gain the knowledge to get started
- How to develop a business proposal to present to an investor or bank
- How to organise the financial needs for a new business venture
- Compliance required for a new business
- Resources needed for a new business
- How to organise and prioritise work
- How to determine risks for a new business
- Develop a budget for both personal and business
- Social media and communication methods for business networks

For remote learning online Zoom classes students will need a stable internet connection on computer or laptop to participate.
An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College may conduct an LLN assessment as part of the pre-enrolment process unless other evidence of competency is available.
Students should have a basic digital literacy and knowledge of Microsoft applications (particularly Word) as several units will require access to these. The course will cover the use of some of these applications but assumes familiarity and some prior knowledge of how to navigate these.
If students do not have this, we suggest a Digital Literacy course be undertaken prior to this qualification.

- An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III.

*Eligibility criteria apply. This training is fully subsidised by the NSW and Australian Governments, and as a result your fee is determined through Training Services NSW formal eligibility criteria. Students will need to supply the required evidence in accord with the requirements of Smart and Skilled eligibility.
Payment Plans are available through Macquarie Community College for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications. 10% deposit OR $40 (whichever is greater) required upon enrolment followed by Interest-free payment plan. Payment methods: EFTPOS, Direct Deposit, Direct Debit, Visa or MasterCard.
This course involves 30 days of classroom-based learning.
Some additional self-paced study will be required outside of the class. We recommend students plan for the same amount of self-paced learning as they have in the classroom, but the actual time required will depend on each students prior skills and experience of the industry and prior educational background.
Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning
Credit transfer (CT) is defined in the AQF as follows:
- Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:
- Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.
This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:
- Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
- Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will entail the following:
- Written assessments and/or verbal assessments
- Practical simulation and group role play
- Independent and/or group research and class presentation
- Work placement practical skills and observations assessment
You will be informed when assessments are to take place.
