Terry has been a practicing veterinary surgeon for 40 years. During this time he has worked with large and small animals of a wide range of species. He has worked within research projects at Royal North Shore Hospital and taught at Sydney and Macquarie Universities and TAFE.

He is a member of Australian Veterinary Behaviour Interest Group and American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviour along with other professional bodies.
