Resume
MELISSA SLOAN
Experience:
Melissa has pursued a love of drawing and the visual arts since childhood, which led her into the field of architecture, studying at Sydney University in the eighties.
Melissa has been a tutor of Drawing and Painting courses at Macquarie Community College since 2004. Prior to her employment at MCC she herself was an avid participant of the courses as a way of keeping up her artwork while looking after her young family.
Melissa has used her graphic and painting skills in many of the community groups she has belonged to - from poster and leaflet designs, logo creations, venue decoration and artwork. Her sketchbooks are full of images of places travelled and ideas inspired by life around her.
The media Melissa works in includes pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, watercolours and occasionally collage.
In her courses Melissa endeavours to encourage her students to carefully observe the world around them and to find inspiration from its beauty and intricacy, and further to equip them with the technical skills to capture their ideas and observations in their own drawings or paintings. As we do this in a class environment our lessons are enriched by shared experiences in art and in life, enjoyment is always the bonus to a productive day.
In 2009 Melissa was joined by her students in staging a group exhibition in our Chatswood premises as part of Willoughby Council’s Open Studio weekend, impressing ourselves, our friends and the public alike.
