Jita Singh
Jita was born into a musical family and has been performing since the age of 5. Her father is a classical Indian musician playing sarode, who lead the Punjabi Bhangra Group of NSW, a folk dancing troupe, from 1976-1982 in which she participated.
Jita’s training in classical Indian dance began whilst living in England for 5 years, with Kathak and folk dance and continued in Australia for a couple of years, both in Kathak and Odissi dance. Jita has also had Kathak dance training in New Delhi and in Amritsar.
Jita has been performing for 10 years in Kathak dance, and has held many workshops for schools and community events.
As well as dance, Jita has a deep interest in yoga and is learning to play the Dhol, the folk drum accompanying Bhangra dance!
