Why is SKILLS4You Different?

Participation – empowering migrant and refugee women to participate in their community through a shared learning experience.
Holistic environment – increasing employment readiness, capability and work experience for migrant and refugee women by providing wrap-around support services combined with formal training in English, job readiness and formal qualification training.

The Path to a Better Life for Migrant Women: Noura’s Story

Facing many disadvantages, Noura was able to find a new path to empowerment and employment through Macquarie Community College. Noura is now in high demand as a care worker, with several employers offering her work.

“I began work before I even finished my course,” says Noura. Work placement, a crucial component of the course, not only gave her necessary work experience with aged care providers but also the opportunity to prove her worth. Quickly convinced of her value, she was offered employment and her ability to understand both English and Arabic was seen as an advantage. Read more.

Migrant women relieved to find support in Macquarie Community College’s highly anticipated SKILLS4You program: Olga’s Story

Olga, a Sudan-born, Italian-Ethiopian mother of four successfully completed her qualifications in Aged Care and Disability Care at a Certificate III level at Macquarie Community College. Only after years of false starts and putting her dreams on the backburner thanks to an inability to find a suitable education pathway like SKILLS4You.

"For me, the course at Macquarie Community College was the absolute best available for someone with my experience and general industry understanding. I was able to complete it at a pace that suited me and I have been lucky enough to gain a job through an aged care work placement that was organised by the College."
