Interested in trying yoga? This introductory Sydney Yoga course will introduce you to common yoga practices - postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation techniques. Discover the benefits for your body and mind. This course is a passive experience of a mild level of yoga. No previous experience needed.

Course Outline

What is Yoga?

  • Yoga is a scientific fitness system that uses gentle yet dynamic postures and various breathing and relaxation techniques to achieve balance in the body. It is probably the most widely recognised Hatha yoga technique in the world.
  • BKS Iyengar is responsible for much of the modern understanding of Hatha yoga as well as the development and use of yoga props such as bolsters, blankets, belts and blocks as an aid and support for students.
  • This method of teaching pays particularly close attention to placement and alignment of the body and the props can assist precision and extension in the postures.

Topics include:

  • Outline of yoga postures and relaxation techniques
  • Principles of Iyengar style of yoga
  • Health benefits

Course Outcome

  • Students will become familiar with a series of yoga poses and relaxation techniques to assist with relief from pain, discomfort, stress and anexiety in the body.
  • Students will experience the unique experience of the Iyengar style of yoga.

What to Bring

• A yoga mat, blanket and cool drink

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing

Prerequisite: Desirable

  • No prior experience required. Course will suit students will some basic experience.
