If you are looking to improve your spoken and written English for study or work purposes, then this course is for you.
Spoken and Written English – Intermediate is a short introductory course to support you in improving your workplace English skills in preparation for employment or to study a vocational course. This course builds on skills obtained in FSK10123 English for Work and Study - Beginners.
You will learn intermediate level English grammar and pronunciation, improve on your written skills, computer and online security knoweldge, as well as various numeracy skills to help you in the workplace or study environment.
The course comprises a selection of units of work from the accredited FSK-Foundation Skills Training Package and Spoken and Written English qualifications. Units are selected to meet the reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy requirements of the learners.

Course Outline
In this course you will learn how to:
- use Grammar – Intermediate levels
- Pronunciation – Intermediate levels
- Engage in and listen to basic spoken dialogues
- Identify strategies to respond to simple and familiar workplace Procedures
- Engage with simple texts to participate in the community
Course Outcome
By the end of this course, you will be more comfortable having a conversation in English and writing in English. Upon successful completion of this course you will be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in FSK10113 Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways and a Statement of attainment in CSWE II.

Students will undertake an initial assessment of language, literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that this course is suitable for their ability levels.

The NSW Government’s Adult and Community Education (ACE) Program provides additional support to disadvantaged students who have barriers to studying a full qualification. The ACE Program aims to promote access and increase vocational education and training outcomes for those who experience significant barriers to training and employment.

- long-term unemployed
- Commonwealth welfare recipients and their dependents
- migrants/refugees who are unemployed or underemployed

Study Load
This course will be run over a period of 7-8 weeks which will include both classroom based sessions and home study.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:
- Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.
This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:
- Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
- Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed
Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will include written and oral tasks, practical tasks and observation by the assessor. You will be informed when assessments are to take place.
