Korean Brush Painting - Sydney Course
Korean Brush Painting is designed to introduce students to the art of drawing still life using traditional Korean brushes and traditional Korean handmade paper (hanji).
You will learn framing technique, brush strokes, mixing colours, as well as experimenting with mediums such as fixative, gesso, sumi ink, watercolour, pastels and more. In addition, students can further develop their drawing skill using charcoal, pencil, pen and different brushes.
This course is suitable for all levels. Each student can work on their own unique projects, with direct assistance and expert instruction from the tutor.

Course Outline
In this course, you will learn:
- Painting using traditional Korean brushes on Hanji (traditional Korean handmade paper).
- Painting techniques using mixed media - including Sumi ink, fixative, watercolour and pastels.
- Brush stroke painting techniques relating to still life painting.
- Framing technique.
- How to mix colours.
- How to use charcoal, pencil, pen and different brushes.
Course Outcome
By the end of the course you will be confident to paint a still life of your own choice using various mediums.

Prerequisites Desirable
- This course assumes no prior knowledge of painting but is also suitable for those with some painting experience. The course is flexible so that it can cater for any level of experience.
Delivery Mode
Classroom based: experienced and engaging trainers will take you through the course material face to face.
Classroom based learning for this course includes:
- Scheduled class times and sessions
- Interaction with your trainer and other students
- Class is held in a well-lit hall, using flat desks to work on.
- Classes will start with an introduction to the day’s exercise, then students work on individual pieces. Tutor will circulate throughout the class with advice and encouragement as needed.
