Guitar Lessons - Intermediate - Sydney Course

This Guitar - Intermediate course (Stage 2) will build and develop your guitar playing skills. You will continue to learn new songs on your guitar while you explore different keys, more complex playing styles, improvisation and performance.
You will develop skills in:
- Chordal aspects of pieces for study including moveable chord shapes utilising triads and seventh chords
- Melodic aspects of pieces for study including keys, scales and their positioning on the guitar
- Solo aspects of pieces for study including scales, arpeggios and melodic development
This course follows on from the Beginners (Stage 1) course and is presented in a fun, interactive and collaborative environment.
By the end of the course, you will be able to play chordal accompaniment and melodies to several entire songs. You will have the knowledge to apply these skills to a variety of musical settings.

Course Outline
In this course you will learn several complete songs with focus on:
- Presentation of pieces for study with explanation of techniques required to play them
- Chordal aspects of pieces for study including moveable chord shapes utilising triads and seventh chords
- Melodic aspects of pieces for study including keys, scales and their positioning on the guitar
- Solo aspects of pieces for study including scales, arpeggios and melodic development
- Practice methods and application
- Basic music theory as applied to the guitar
Note: Course content is adjusted to suit different experience levels within the class
Course Outcome
- It is intended that by the end of the course you will be able to play chordal accompaniment and melodies to several entire songs.
- You will have the knowledge to apply these skills to a variety of musical settings. Students have the opportunity to practise the application of new skills on a piece of music of their own choosing. This will be presented to the group in the final week.

Prerequisite: Essential
- It is preferable that you have completed the Guitar - Beginners (or similar Stage 1) course once or twice before attempting the Guitar - Intermediate course.
Skills required for successful transition into Guitar Stage 2 are:
- an ability to play some open chords;
- a basic understanding of bar chords (at least root note on string 6 and 5 major and minor shapes); and
- elementary music reading skills.
Important Information
- Guitar - Intermediate (Stage 2) is designed for students to repeat multiple times. In light of this, the course content is changed each term to suit different experience levels within the class
- This is a group class. Material is presented using a combination of written and played musical examples. Students will play individually and in small groups. Feedback will be provided individually and to the group as a whole.
