It is well known that 'you eat with your eyes first'! The Art of Carving Fruit and Vegetables course will help you present your food in a visually appealing, creative and appetizing way.

This unique course is for anyone who is interested to learn the skills and techniques to create beautifully carved fruit and vegetable centrepieces. You will learn how to use a knife to safely carve out different shapes such as leaves, roses, lillies, swans and fruit baskets.

You will be amazed how much you can learn in a short period of time, making it easy for you to create attractive plate settings and, at the more advanced level, really impressive table centerpieces.
The course is ideal for individuals who enjoy to impress at dinner parties as well as for the catering professionals who will be proud of their works of art.

By the end of the course you will not look at fruits and vegetables the same way again!

Course Outline

In this course you will learn carving and garnishing techniques for example:

  • Carving watermelons into fruit baskets
  • Carving carrots into leaves
  • Carving zucchinis into roses
  • Carving apples into swans
  • Carving fennel into Calla Lilies
  • How to hold a carving knife
  • How to preserve fruits and vegetables

Course Outcome

By the end of the course students will have learnt the techniques needed to be able to creatively and confidently carve various fruits and vegetables into delicate patterns, flowers etc to use as garnishes, fruit platters and decorations.

What to bring

Students to please bring a chopping board with them to class.
Students to also bring their own watermelon on one of the classes to carve into a fruit basket (to be advised the class before).

Important Information

  • The carving knife at the first class is $10
  • If students wish to purchase the entire carving set (including 80 additional knives and carving tools the cost is $80)
  • The teacher will provide the fruit for each class (except for the watermelon). At the end of each class the cost of the fruit is split between the students (usually $4-5 dollars each student).

Prerequisite

No prerequisites required. This class is suitable for beginners to advanced carvers.
Student must be able to satisfy basic carving techniques including correctly holding carving knives and completing various carving to proceed to more advanced and delicate forms of carving.

Delivery Mode

Classroom based: experienced and engaging trainers will take you through the course material face to face.

Classroom based learning for this course includes:

  • Scheduled class times and sessions
  • Interaction with your trainer and other students
  • The class is delivered in a classroom with a sink available for practical lessons
