Introduction to Family History Research

Introduction to Family History Research - Sydney Course

Ever wondered what secrets, intrigues or scandals are hidden within your family tree? Curious to find out how your ancestors made their way to Australia? Were they convicts or free settlers? How did they earn their livings and made their way in the world? Do you know what hardships or obstacles they faced and what joys and successes they experienced?

With the increasing popularity of DNA testing and TV shows like Who Do You Think You Are, more of us are interested in discovering where we came from and learning about the lives of our ancestors.

Researching your family history is both rewarding and challenging. There are literally millions of records to search with more and more becoming available every day. You can uncover fascinating stories to share with your family for years to come and solve long-held family mysteries.

At the same time, it can be tricky to navigate your way through the overwhelming amount of information you’re likely to find and be confident you’re on the right track.

The good news is that in this course, you’ll learn practical tips and insights to help you plan your research, figure out where to find records for your ancestors, cast a critical eye over what you’ve found, find cousins around the world, and manage your growing tree.

It’s suitable for beginners or anyone who’s started their family tree but would like to gain more confidence and build their research skills. You only need very basic computer skills to get started.
