CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support provides you with the skills to plan, develop, implement and monitor programs and services for older people in aged care facilities or through organisations that deliver services in the community and client homes. With this nationally accredited qualification, you can provide support and personal care to older people and prepare for a supervisory or team leader role in the aged care industry.

Course Outline
In this course, you will learn:
- Key principles of person centred support and promoting independence
- Safe manual handling techniques when providing support to the elderly
- How to support the Independence and wellbeing of the older person
- How to encourage community participation and social inclusion
- How to work within legal and ethical guidelines
- How to conduct assessments
- How to develop and implement individual support plans
- How to assist the client with their medication needs
Course Outcome
By the end of the course you will be able to confidently provide support to people with a variety of support needs while applying:
- A person centred approach
- Strategies that will maximise independence
- Strategies to deal with varying behaviours of people with dementia
- Support to facilitate the empowerment of the older person
- Knowledge of procedural practices within an Ageing support organisational context
- Strategies to manage legal and ethical compliance in an organisational context
- Skills and knowledge to develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnerships with other service providers
At the end of the course, you will be issued a certificate in CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support, where competency has been achieved.

Prerequisite: Essential
We have tailored this course to people who have already completed a CHC33015 or CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support and/or have current industry experience, and wish to build on current skills to move into a team leader / supervisory capacity within the industry. Applicants are advised that if you are not currently working in the aged care industry or do not have previous aged care industry experience, we recommend enrolling in our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support.
An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College may conduct an LLN assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.

Study Load
All students will undertake face-to-face or livestream video training, home study and 120 hours work placement. The amount of home study required is dependent on the experience of the student and is in addition to face-to-face or livestream video training hours.

Credit transfer (CT) is defined in the AQF as follows:
- Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:
- Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.
This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:
- Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
- Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed
Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:
- Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
- Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
- Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.
For this course assessment will entail the following:
- Assessment methods include written and oral tasks, practical tasks and observation by the assessor. You will be informed when assessments are to take place.
Work Placement
Students are required to complete 120 hours of work placement.
Completion of 120 hours in an aged care service facility is required where you will work as a volunteer student during work-placement.
Please note: The practical workplace component is scheduled at various stages through the course. Please be aware that this schedule may need to change should Government COVID-19 restrictions be in place when the work placement is scheduled.
Before commencing work placement, you will be required to obtain one or all of the following which will be confirmed during the enrolment process and at your course induction. If required Macquarie Community College will assist you with this application process.
