This course provides you with the knowledge, skills and qualification to work with children in a variety of roles and settings such as preschools, long day care services, child care centres and family day care.

Course Outcome

At the end of the course, you will be able to confidently care for children aged 0-6 years focusing on the child’s overall health, education and development. You will be able to provide support for children and their families as needed.

You will be issued a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care where competency has been achieved.

Prerequisite: Essential

• An appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills is required to enrol in this course. Macquarie Community College may conduct an LLN assessment as part of the pre enrolment process.
• Obtain a National Criminal History Check (National Police Certificate)
• Obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Provide a NSW Vaccination record

This training is subsidised by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments, and as a result your fee is determined through Training Services NSW formal eligibility criteria. Students who meet additional specified criteria, may be eligible for a concession fee or a fee exemption. In claiming the concession or exemption students will be required to supply the required evidence to support the claim in accord with the requirements of Smart and Skilled eligibility.

Students who are eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or credit transfer from previous study will have their fee adjusted to reflect this. The amended fee will be confirmed by Training Services NSW and will be reflected in the adjusted Student Fee Statement.

Payment Plans are available through Macquarie Community College for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications. 10% deposit OR $40 (whichever is greater) required upon enrolment followed by Interest-free payment plan. Payment methods: EFTPOS, Direct Deposit, Direct Debit, Visa or MasterCard.

Study Load

The time required to complete the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care will depend on the level of experience that students have prior to the course and the amount of hours of self-paced study they need to complete.

All students will undertake face-to-face or livestream video training, home study and 160 hours work placement. The amount of home study required approximately 15 hours per week, but may vary depending on the experience of the student and is in addition to face-to-face or livestream video training hours.

Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning

Credit transfer (CT) is defined in the AQF as follows:
Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

• Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.

This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:

• Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications.
• Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

How You Will Be Assessed

Assessment (including recognition of prior learning) must:

• Meet the requirements of the relevant training package or accredited course, and
• Be conducted in accordance with the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence, and
• Meet workplace and, where relevant, regulatory requirements.

For this course assessment will entail the following:

• Written assessments and/or verbal assessments;
• Practical simulation and group role play;
• Independent and/or group research and class presentation;
• Work placement practical skills and observations assessment .

You will be informed when assessments are to take place.

Work Placement

Students are required to complete 160 hours of work placement in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care facility, where you will work as a volunteer student during work placement.

Please note: The practical workplace component is scheduled at various stages through the course. Please be aware that this schedule may need to change should Government COVID-19 restrictions be in place when the work placement is scheduled.

Before commencing work placement, you will be required to obtain one or all of the following which will be confirmed during the enrolment process and at your course induction. If required Macquarie Community College will assist you with this application process.

1. A current Working with Children check (free of charge for volunteers)
2. A current National Criminal History Check (between $30-$60)
3. An up to date vaccination record (possible GP or vaccination costs)

• Suitable work placement clothing is required. i.e., black pants, white polo shirt and leather (or leather like) fully enclosed shoes with non-slip soles.
