Introduction to Auslan 2 (Sign Language) - Sydney Course

Auslan is the sign language used by the majority of the Australian Deaf community. After mastering Introduction to Auslan 1, you can further build on your Auslan communication skills in this Introduction to Auslan 2 course.

This fun and practical introduction course is taught by Deaf Trainers. 

This course is suitable for students:

  • Who want to learn Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and about Deaf culture;
  • Who are looking for a short course at a relaxed pace;
  • Wanting to attend classes within their local area;
  • Who are managers, employers, teachers, health professionals, friends and colleagues of Deaf people and want to communicate with them;
  • Who are interested in working with Deaf people.

By the end of this course, you will have developed further visual-gestural communication strategies, and extended your ability to adapt signs for use in different contexts.

Course Outline

During the course, students will learn: 

  • Further communication skills in Auslan;
  • Further visual-gestural communication strategies;
  • To extend your ability to adapt signs for use in different contexts;
  • About topics including occupations, suburbs, directions, families, time, appointments, countries and many more;
  • To develop an appreciation for Auslan;
  • How to access genuine Auslan with Deaf trainers;
  • To develop practical Auslan skills;
  • Through fun and informal classes.

Prerequisite: Essential

  • Students must have completed the Introduction to Auslan 1 course before commencing Introduction to Auslan 2.
